Screen Sizes Measured Diagonally

If you are on this webpage, I will assume you might be in the market to purchase a new television, and you plan on connecting it to a separate home theater audio system. The very first thing you need to decide is exactly where you plan on locating your television. Are you going to set it on top of a TV stand, or mount it on the wall?

If you plan on setting it atop a TV stand, your center channel speaker (or your soundbar) should be placed on the top shelf of your stand centered underneath the TV screen. If your TV stand is wide enough and your front left and right speakers are small enough, you can simply place a speaker to each side of the TV on your stand. Larger "bookshelf-size" speakers may require purchasing some floor stands. Of course, floor standing tower speakers sit on the floor to each side of your TV stand. Be sure that your TV stand has enough shelving space to accommodate each of your AV components.

If you plan on wall-mounting your TV, you might want to go with the next larger screen size than if you were to set it on a stand, because the screen will be maybe a foot or so further away from your seating area. You may want to go with an audio system with compact wall-mountable satellite speakers that can easily be mounted to each side and beneath your television, or you may instead prefer the look of a single sleek soundbar mounted underneath the TV. Another nice-looking option is to go with flush-mount in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. You will still need a component rack to house your AV receiver and source components, and don't forget a long HDMI cable to run out of the AV receiver to the back of your television.

TV technology has advanced quite a bit over the last decade. I remember back in January 2007 at CES in Las Vegas when Sony proudly displayed their tiny 11-inch diagonal OLED television that retailed later that year for $2500, and it wasn't even high definition. Today, you can buy a 55-inch diagonal 4K Ultra HD (3,840 x 2,160 resolution) OLED Smart TV from LG for the same price!

For several years now, Samsung has been touting their Quantum Dot technology which they claim allows you to experience "perfect color" and "100% color volume". Models with this technology are marketed as QLED televisions.

Surprisingly, even with the pedestal stand attached, it weighs only 145 pounds and requires just 16 inches of depth. When you remove the pedestal, it's just 3 inches deep, so it would look stunning mounted on your wall. Just be sure you buy a hefty enough mounting bracket!
